The team

Comux UK was created by Ed Hall, and was born out of demand from potential local TV operators for an equitable, efficient and community driven approach to providing a cost-effective distribution infrastructure for local TV in the UK.

Canis Media

The team at Canis Media has worked with most of the UK’s local broadcasters providing physical and commercial services. The team has unique experience in assisting smaller channel operators to create realistic business plans.

Canis Local TV Services provides a wide range of services for individuals and organisations seeking to exploit the opportunities presented by the UK Government’s new licensing framework for local TV stations.

Ed Hall

Chief Executive Officer

Ed is an active investor in digital television businesses in the UK and overseas. He has launched, bought or sold more channels in the UK than anyone else.

Ed founded Canis in 2001 and  founded and ran Invest TV, the company that launched the Simply group of channels. Ed formerly worked as a consultant for a number of companies, including Northern and Shell and Channel 4. Before moving into the business side of broadcasting Ed was a reporter and producer for the BBC, Channel 4, Thames Television and various newspapers and magazines. He won a SONY Radio Award in 1998 for a programme in the series Ed Hall Investigates… for BBC Radio 5 Live.

Ed is well known on the conference circuit both here in the UK and abroad and is also a regular contributor to television and broadcast trade magazines. His views and commentaries on the issues currently facing the television industry are widely respected and he is a valuable adviser to any newcomer to the UK television market.


Chris Romilly

Chief Technical Officer

Chris built a successful early career in electronics design, progressing to large-scale project design management. He then spent ten years in the commercial arena providing authoritative technical support to sales and key accounts in digital TV worldwide and account management of major UK terrestrial broadcast accounts.

He brings a wealth of experience in DTT broadcasting to Comux, having worked for NDS, Tandberg, NTL and Arqiva where his responsibilities included system-level planning and design of transmission, distribution, multiplexing and contribution networks.

Proficient in complex contract negotiations and management of the commercial and technical aspects of digital broadcast service delivery, Chris is responsible for the design and build of the local TV Multiplex and for its smooth running once launched.

In addition to the delivery of the transmission infrastructure, Chris has overseen the build of the playout and multiplexing centre in Birmingham and the wide area IP network Comux is putting in place to connect to the individual local TV studios and transmitter sites.

Chris’ commercial and technical skills and experience makes him very well qualified to manage the design and build of the local TV infrastructure to budget, and versus a very tight deadline. Please contact Chris at

Peter Williams

Peter Williams

Director of Finance

Peter has extensive experience as Finance Director in high growth companies, where, in particular, development of strong financial controls and funds management are critical. He has most recently worked in the insurance industry, an industry undergoing regulatory change in its capital management. Peter is therefore sympathetic to the role of a regulator and understands how to develop and manage Comux’s relationship with its myriad of regulators.

His role at Comux is to oversee all financial aspects of company strategy and he is responsible for setting up the processes and systems that enable the flow of financial information. Specifically, Peter will have control of the company’s accounting function, financial planning and reconciliation of funding to build out the transmission and distribution infrastructure for local TV.In addition, Peter will be responsible for company policies regarding corporate governance, taxation, insurance, and ensuring best practice in all procurement and expenditure by the Comux team.

Aaron Chamberlain

Broadcast Services Manager

Aaron brings his 10 years of Channel Management experience to the role of Broadcast Services Manager at Comux

Having launched and managed 12 channels in various genres including general entertainment, music, sport and self-promotion, plus a VOD service, Aaron is a channel management and scheduling specialist. His primary role at Comux is to ensure that the local TV channels are scheduled correctly and stay on air from a technical perspective, however, Aaron also has plenty of experience on the editorial side. He has worked as a media planner and a promo producer for a variety of channels so is well qualified to help with promo campaign managing and ad minutage scheduling strategies for the local licensees.

Aaron is on hand to assist local licensees with any issues that they face regarding their broadcast services and running of their channels.


MCR Team

The MCR team at the Birmingham NOC have a wide range of broadcast and technical backgrounds. The team work 24/7 shifts to support local TV licensees, monitoring playout and transmission, liaising with suppliers, identifying and fixing faults, working with new licensees on the technical tasks required to bring their channels to the air and supplying post-launch support.

Lavinia De’Athe

Head of Administration

Lavinia is based at Comux UK’s Central Operations Centre in Birmingham and is responsible for the management of the office, facilities, administration systems, database creation, website/portal, marketing support, event coordination, social marketing coordination and management of all contacts and suppliers.

She has responsibility for staff training across many areas of the business and has over 25 years of experience as a Practice Manager and is a qualified Assessor with a legal/commercial background dealing with compliance and all administration including successful project management. In addition, Lavinia has a wide range of management experience in communications, customer services and training so is well qualified to oversee what is becoming an increasingly busy office, and to help and support a growing number of local TV licensees. Stephanie Jennings

Stephanie Hodgson

Comux UK Administrator

Stephanie is based in our Chalfont St Peter Offices. Her role is very varied as she assists both the FD and the CTO as well as works on all things administrative. Stephanie’s role also includes newsletter editing and distribution, updating of the website, social networking for Comux and event co-ordination.

Stephanie graduated from Loughborough University in 2010 and has worked in a number of different fields in the media, including publication and photography.
